The new LP The Afternoon of our Lives is clearly split in two different strokes: the A side tells the tales of a carefree, happy-go-lucky ex-party animal whose sense of wonder has remained evergreen whereas the B side is much darker and leads you through the most hazardous regions of a troubled mind: the solitary son, very superstitious and pessimistic has become a man obsessed with fetishism and nostalgia.

about

Olivier Rocabois, a middle-aged mustachioed Paris-based songmaker from Brittany, released his first solo effort in 2021. "Olivier Rocabois Goes Too Far" received good reviews in France and beyond. The new LP called "The Afternoon of our Lives" has been mainly recorded in the legendary La Frette Studios (Arctic Monkeys, Marianne Faithfull, Nick Cave, Gruff Rhys) and digs deeper into the deranged psyche of its author, creating a soundscape where ecstatic melodies bloom within free-form song structures.

About the song The Coming of Spring, he wrote: "this is meant to be an anthem, pouring out of my brain and dedicated to the youngsters. Like a bud that would magically appear in the morning light on a freezing cold Tuesday sometime in April.
We're all dying to see the spring make its glorious comeback, we can't wait to share the universal relief its advent provides and the collective reward we're given when it's finally here. Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, a Jim Morrison interview where he mumbles the title, the first lockdowns, an obsession with the first Tame Impala records and the heavenly harmonies sung by the Bee Gees: all these elements helped shape the song.

The album version is very close to the demo, both in spirit and sound. I wanted to express the sheer joy the springtime brings to every one of us, the promises that can't be held and the eternal life/death/rebirth cycle we can catch sight of as long as it lasts."

LYRICS

Greet the sun
Bamboo grows so crazy fast
This is just a wild guess
The Coming of Spring

Feel the sun
Keith Moon grew old very fast
This is just a wild guess
Or the Coming of Spring?
Could this be the Coming of Spring?
Will we ever see the Coming of Spring?
I wish we’d seen the Coming of Spring
Please welcome the springtime
We all need the Rite of Spring, don’t we?

Let’s reset our body clocks
Reset society
Let’s start again from scratch
Let’s play it from the top
Could this be the Coming of Spring?
Will we ever see the Coming of Spring?
I wish we’d seen the Coming of Spring
